Hey everyone! I’m Nico, the guy writing all this stuff.
For parts of the last 10 years or so, I’ve been committed to something that has always been a burning desire for me — exploring.
I’ve always found it fascinating that we live in an era when so much of the planet is within reach. Places that would have taken months to reach, or were practically inaccessible to previous generations, are now just a plane ride away. To me, that’s an extraordinary opportunity, and one I don’t want to take for granted.
The idea of spending my entire life in one country, following the same routine without experiencing what the rest of the world has to offer, has never appealed to me. There are too many cultures to discover, people to meet, languages to learn, and natural wonders to explore.
I want to experience as much of it as I can. In a way, I feel it’s my duty to explore, learn, and expand my perspective. Traveling isn’t something I can imagine not doing.
My Experience as an Independent Traveler
Over the years, I’ve traveled to 10 countries, spending extended periods abroad and often living in one place for four to eight months at a time. I’ve even spent six months in a single country on more than one occasion.
Along the way, I’ve developed into an experienced independent backpacker, learning how to navigate unfamiliar places, adapt to different environments, and experience destinations beyond the typical tourist itinerary.
Some of my greatest memories have come from traveling, whether it’s exploring a new city, discovering an incredible landscape, meeting interesting people, or simply experiencing everyday life somewhere completely different from home.
One of the things I value most about traveling is the opportunity to immerse myself in another culture rather than just pass through it.
Language Learning And Cultural Immersion
My passion for traveling is also what inspired me to learn foreign languages.
I speak advanced Spanish and intermediate Brazilian Portuguese, both of which have made my experiences abroad considerably more rewarding. Being able to communicate with locals opens doors that might otherwise remain closed. It allows me to have more meaningful conversations, understand local customs, access information in another language, and discover places and experiences I might never have found otherwise.
I genuinely enjoy the process of learning languages, especially when I know I’ll eventually get to use them while exploring another country.
I’m currently maintaining my Spanish and Portuguese while beginning to study Italian in preparation for a future trip to Italy. For me, language learning and traveling go hand in hand, and both have become important parts of my everyday life.
Why I Started Nico Just Landed
In September 2025, I started Nico Just Landed to share my experiences with like-minded adventurers and give something back to the travel community that has been so influential in my life.
Through my articles, photography, and eventually videos, I want to share firsthand travel experiences, practical advice, cultural observations, and recommendations that can help other people make the most of their own adventures.
My goal isn’t simply to tell people where to go. I want to share what I’ve learned from actually spending time in these places, navigating them independently, and getting to know what makes each destination special.
Whether you’re planning your first international trip, considering an extended stay abroad, or just looking for inspiration, I hope you’ll find something here that makes your next adventure a little more rewarding.
